Full-Day Kindergarten: Coming To A Toms River School Near You This Fall
Pre-register online to sign your kindergartner up for the 2015-16 school year
Kindergartners attending Toms River schools next fall will need to pack a lunch, as the district is ready to launch its full-day kindergarten program.
“Multiple studies conclude that children in full-day kindergarten programs demonstrate significantly greater progress in literacy, math, general learning skills, and social skills than in half-day programs,” Toms River Regional Schools Superintendent David M. Healy said Tuesday in announcing the launch. “We are excited to bring full-day kindergarten to our youngest learners at all 12 of our elementary schools with minimal impact to the taxpayers. We believe that this will profoundly impact the children of the Toms River Regional School District for many years to come.”
Parents and guardians of eligible students must pre-register and make an appointment online for in-person registration, which is scheduled for Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and Feb 14 at Toms River Intermediate North.

“As a board, full-day kindergarten was a goal we asked Superintendent Healy to implement when we hired him on July 1,” school board President Joseph G. Torrone said. “We are all pleased with the opportunities and advantages this initiative will give our new students as part of a continuous and rigorous educational program into high school. We commend Mr. Healy and his administrative team for developing a plan that will achieve this outstanding result in a fiscally responsible way.”
