ICE Seeks To Deport Women In Crash That Killed NJ Infant

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Federal immigration officials plan to deport two women who have been charged in connection with a crash that killed a baby on Friday in Ocean County.

Maria CobonGuzman, 20, of Trenton, a citizen of Guatemala, and Ariadana Lazaro-Flores, 22, of Toms River, a citizen of Mexico, both have immigration detainers lodged against them, according to Ocean County Jail records.

CobonGuzman was charged with manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle without ever having possessed or been issued a valid driver’s license while involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash, and two counts of assault by auto, in the crash that happened shortly before noon in the parking lot of the NPGS grocery store on West County Line Road in Jackson, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

Lazaro-Flores was charged with knowingly engaging in conduct creating a substantial risk of death to another, in connection with the crash, the prosecutor's office said.

CobonGuzman was driving a Ford Fusion and hit the mother, who was pushing a baby carriage with her 5-year-old daughter and 9-month-old son, in the parking lot, the prosecutor's office said.

The mother and children were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where the baby, identified as Yitzchok Rosenberg, NJ.com reported, citing court records. The identities of his mother and sister have not been released.

Investigators learned CobonGuzman did not have a valid driver's license and had never been licensed to drive in any state, and that Lazaro-Flores was aware of that but let CobonGuzman drive the car anyway, the prosecutor's office said.

A request to federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for comment was not immediately answered on Monday afternoon.
