Island Heights Set To Mark 140th Anniversary At Founders Day

The Founders Day celebration includes a parade, a fair and other events. Organizers say vendors and sponsors are still welcome.

ISLAND HEIGHTS, NJ — Come join the celebration in Island Heights, as the town marks its 140th anniversary with its Founders Day celebration.

The festivities will be an all-day affair on Saturday, July 28, 2018, with a parade and a fair with activities for kids, vendors, and food trucks.

The event will celebrate the incorporation of the Island Heights Association in 1878.

The weekend begins Friday evening with a Camp Meeting Revival Service hosted by the Island Heights United Methodist Church. The service begins at 7 p.m. at the Camp Meeting grounds on Ocean Avenue.

On Saturday morning, the Island Heights United Methodist Church will hold its monthly breakfast that's open to the public. The breakfast will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the church, also on Ocean Avenue.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. It will start at the pavilion at Central and River avenues, march along River Avenue to Lake Avenue, turn right and march down Lake Avenue to Memorial Field at the corner of Lake and Maple avenues.

Among the scheduled parade participants are the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Department, Island Heights First Aid Squad, Island Heights Elementary School Band, Central Regional JROTC, Central Regional Band and Color Guard and both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Local families from Chestnut Avenue will be crafting their own float as well.

The Founders Day Fair at Memorial Field is scheduled to run from noon to 6 p.m. and will include vendors, food trucks, and fun activities for the children. WOBM will be on hand with games and Island Heights trivia for children attending the fair.

Community organizations will also be hosting events at their locations throughout town, such a performance by The Top Hats (known as the String Band by Island Heights residents) at the pavilion; cake and coffee at the Island Heights Yacht Club, and a guest speaker at the Peto Museum and Studio.
