'Jersey Shore' Coming Back To MTV In 2018

The network announced the return of the series, but where filming will take place is not clear.

They're baaaack. But exactly where, no one is saying.

MTV's "Jersey Shore" is returning for the summer of 2018, the network announced Monday night. As of Tuesday morning, however, they are being tight-lipped about where the show will be filmed.

"Here's what we can tell ya: The series will be called JERSEY SHORE Family Vacation and it will premiere in 2018," the network said in an announcement on its website late Monday.

Many of the cast members from the original series that aired from 2009 to 2012 are returning: Deena Nicole Cortese, Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio,” Jenni “JWOWW” Farley, Vinny Guadagnino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino will be featured, the network said. But Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, who appeared in the "Reunion Road Trip" episode last summer that focused on Jersey Shore, was not among the cast listed for the new show.

The cast filmed in Asbury Park and Point Pleasant Beach in June and July 2017; Seaside Heights, where the group spent three summers filming their vacation antics as 20-somethings, refused to grant them permits.

The original series debuted on MTV in 2009 and aired 71 episodes. It was controversial for its view of summer life in Seaside Heights, and the antics of the cast, which included some boardwalk fights and bar fights. And the attention the cast drew wherever they went grated on many local residents.

The spin-off, "Snooki and JWoww," angered locals and MTV wound up in court when they spent the 2013 summer season filming at a house in the Pelican Island section of Berkeley Township, which had been one of several areas hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy in October 2012.

What "Jersey Shore Family Vacation" will be like is anyone's guess. The cast has grown up now. Polizzi, the youngest of the group, is 29 now, and the others all are in their 30s. Farley is 31, Sorrentino is 33 and Delvecchio is 35. Polizzi and Farley both are married and have children. Sorrentino has publicly battled an addiction to painkillers. According to a People magazine article from August, Delvecchio has become a successful DJ and has a young daughter; Cortese is engaged and works as a dog trainer; Magro, whose relationship with Giancola ended a few years ago, lives in Los Angeles, and Guadagnino has had success with the show "Vinny and Ma Eat America" on the Cooking Channel.

Here's the trailer that aired Monday night during the broadcast of MTV's new show, "Floribama Shore," which appears to have a similar format to Jersey Shore:
