
TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River schools and the Toms River Green Team will be continuing a speaker series that highlights the environment.
The Poseidon Academy TRUST Speaker Series invites individuals to present on environmental and sustainable topics such as the health of Barnegat Bay, green economy, storm water management, energy conservation and assistance programs, arts and the impact on the local economy and other similar topics.
Phil Capasso, the STEM coach for the Colts Neck Township Schools, will be the next speaker in the series. He will speak at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Poseidon Academy, on Irons Street across from the U.S. Post Office.

Capasso is in his third year as the Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math Coach in the Colts Neck schools, working to enact various growing programs for grades K-8. He received a certificate in Horticulture Studies from Brookdale Community College and has attended and presented at numerous gardening conferences.
Capasso recently attended the 2018 National Children and Youth Gardening Symposium in Ithaca, NY, and has submitted a proposal to present at the 2019 National Children and Youth Gardening Symposium in Madison, Wisconsin.

He is a former executive board member for the New Jersey Technology & Engineering Educators Association (NJTEEA), and served as the president-elect, president, and past president. His topic will be "Incorporating Children's Gardens in Schools."
