TOMS RIVER, NJ — An accidental kitchen fire damaged an apartment at the Jamestowne Village Apartments on Thursday but there were no injuries, Toms River fire officials said.

The fire, which was reported about 1 p.m., forced evacuations of surrounding apartments while firefighters battled the blaze, said John Novak, chief inspector with the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The fire was contained to the kitchen of a first-floor apartment and extinguished within 15 minutes of the call reporting it, Novak said.
