Lavallette Man Charged In Home Invasion Burglary After Chase, Bay Jump: Police

LAVALLETTE, NJ — A Lavallette man is facing multiple charges after police chased him down and pulled him out of Barnegat Bay following a home invasion burglary in the borough, police said.

Brian Mark Schremmer, 29, of Jersey City Avenue, has been charged with burglary, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer, and throwing bodily fluids at a corrections officer, said Sgt. Justin Lamb of the Lavallette Police Department. He did not give specify what was thrown.

Lamb said Lavallette police received a 911 call shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a home invasion in progress. Patrolman Adam LaCicero, Officer Ryan Crisalli, and Officer Harry Paul were told by the victims that the man had forced his way into the home and confronted them in their living room, Lamb said.

The man, later identifed as Schremmer, had last been seen running toward Lavallette Avenue and the bayfront, and a few minutes later police found him as he was running in that area, Lamb said. They chased him for several hundred yards before catching him at the edge of a bulkhead, Lamb said.

Even then, Schremmer continued to resist arrest by jumping into the bay, injuring LaCicero in the process, Lamb said. The injuries were minor, he said.

Schremmer was rescued from the bay and arrested, Lamb said. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail under the guidelines of bail reform.
