Lacey Double Murder-Suicide: Husband Was 'Well-Regarded' Employee Of Toms River Schools

Gregg Scott worked in the buildings and grounds department, the school board's attorney confirmed.

LACEY, NJ — The man authorities say killed his family in a brutal double murder-suicide on Wednesday was an employee of the Toms River Regional School District who was well-regarded by his co-workers, the school board's attorney confirmed Friday.

Gregg Scott, 51, was a maintenance worker in the Buildings and Grounds Department of the school district, attorney Stephen Leone said Friday afternoon. He worked primarily on heating and air-conditioning systems, Leone said.

The Ocean County prosecutor's office said Scott is believed to be the person responsible for killing his wife, Kimberly Dunphey, 48, and 7-year-old son Owen Scott on Wednesday. The family's dog also was killed, authorities have said.

"He was well-regarded by his co-workers," Leone said of Scott. There were no issues with his employment, Leone said.

An autopsy on Scott was scheduled for Friday, the prosecutor's office said.

Family members of Kimberly Dunphey have started a GoFundme campaign to raise funds for funeral expenses for her and her son. Dunphey would have turned 49 Friday, family members said.

The GoFundme campaign had raised more than $11,000 in less than five hours.
