Man Indicted In Break-In, Stabbing Attack In Seaside Park

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ — A Seaside Heights man has been indicted in a stabbing in Seaside Park that seriously injured another man, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.

Porfirio Serrano-Cruz, 39, of Seaside Heights, was indicted by an Ocean County grand jury on a charge of attempted murder in the June 30 attack, along with charges of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance – specifically clonazepam, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Serrano-Cruz was arrested June 30 in Seaside Heights, after authorities answered a 911 call at an O Street home where the caller told police someone broke into his home and tried to kill him, Billhimer said.

Seaside Park officers found a 39-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to the arms, chest, abdomen and groin, Billhimer said. The man was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune; he was treated and later released, the prosecutor said.

Serrano-Cruz was identified as the attacker by investigators from the prosecutor's Major Crime and High Tech Crime units, along with Seaside Park detectives, Billhimer said. He has been held in the Ocean County Jail since he was arrested.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime and High Tech Crime units, Narcotics Strike Force, and Special Victims Unit, the Seaside Park Police Department, Seaside Heights Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit contributed to the investigation.
