Mastronardy, GOP Commissioners Re-Elected In Ocean: Unofficial Results

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy appears to have been overwhelmingly re-elected as county sheriff, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's election.

Mastronardy was joined in a Republican sweep of the county elections by incumbents John P. Kelly and Virginia Haines, who were overwhelmingly supported in the races for two seats on the Ocean County Board of Commissioners.

Mastronardy, who was first elected sheriff in 2013, received 140,535 votes, according the unofficial tallies. Salvatore Frascino, the Democrat who challenged him, received 55,365 votes, according to those tallies.

Kelly and Haines, meanwhile, also received nearly triple the votes of their challengers, Democrats Catherine Paura and Roxanne Barnes.

Kelly, who was first elected to the board in 1993, was the top vote-getter with 135,096, and Haines received 134,921; Paura received 56,640, and Barnes received 56,187, according to the unofficial results. Haines was seeking her third term on the board.

The results are unofficial until they are certified by the Ocean County Clerk.
