TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Township Council honored U.S. Army Capt. Jerry Wagner, who served multiple tours of duty in Iraq, including the Army command supported by famed "American Sniper" Chris Kyle, with a resolution Wednesday at the council meeting.

Wagner, who is set to serve as grand marshal of Monday's Memorial Day parade, was honored with a resolution highlighting his military service, which included multiple tours of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His first deployment was in Fallujah in 2004, and his second, in 2006, was in Ramadi in the Army command that was supported by work of Kyle, the U.S. Navy Seal who later wrote "American Sniper" about his service. Kyle, who killed 91 enemy fighters and is credited with making the Ramadi mission a success, was slain by a fellow veteran in 2013.
