New Ortley Beach Polling Place Finalized

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Voters in Ortley Beach will be casting their ballots at St. Elisabeth's Chapel Hall on Third Avenue, after the Ocean County Board of Elections approved the site as the polling place for District 26 in Toms River.

Tom River Township Clerk J. Mark Mutter said the board's approval of the site was finalized recently. The board's approval vote on May 3 was contingent on there being no objections to the polling place site from the municipal chairpersons of either the Republican and Democratic Parties, he said.

Justin Lamb, who is running against Councilwoman Maria Maruca in the Ward 1 Republian primary this June, in a May 3 post on Facebook — the same date as the Board of Elections voted to approve St. Elisabeth's Chapel Hall — had ripped the Board of Elections after word got out that the Toms River municipal offices substation in the Ortley Beach plaza on Route 35 would no longer be used as a polling place, calling it an attempt at voter suppression.

Mutter said he had recommended the chapel hall as a polling place earlier in the year.
