NJ Weather: Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Storms

Some bad storms are coming that could lead to flooding.

A bad storm is coming that could lead to flooding in a number of New Jersey towns.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous widespread outlook for almost the entire state since widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected to fall on Friday.

Localized amounts could reach 3 inches and urban, and poor drainage flooding is possible, particularly where these higher amounts fall, according to the National Weather Service.

There is the potential for minor coastal flooding with the high tide that occurs Friday night. Here are the alerted areas:

The severe threat of storms will shift from the Midwest into Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia and northeastern Florida on Friday, and New Jersey and Pennsylvania will get the northern edge of the storm, according to AccuWeather.

However, the severity of these storms is expected to be much less than in the Midwest on Thursday. Regardless, the strongest storms could produce small hail and strong wind gusts capable of knocking down trees and power lines, according to AccuWeather.

Here is the forecast:

  • Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 53. Southeast wind around 6 mph.
  • Thursday night: Rain likely, mainly after 5am. Cloudy, with a low around 37. Southeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Friday: Rain. High near 48. East wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Friday night: Rain. Low around 40. East wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Saturday: Rain likely before 8am, then a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. North wind around 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible
