Ocean County Honors 75th D-Day Anniversary

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Ocean County officials will mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day Thursday with a ceremony at the Ocean County Courthouse at noon.
The event is scheduled to include music bythe Garden State Philharmonic Brass Quartet, student readings, and recognition of the men and women who served on what has been termed "The Longest Day" — when thousands of troops landed on the shores of Normandy to push the Nazis out of France.
The event will be held in Historic Courtroom 1 at the courthouse, 118 Washington St.

It will include remarks from historian J. Mark Mutter on Leonard "Bud" Lomell, a Toms River resident whose heroics at Normandy were captured in a book by Tom Brokaw. Lomell, who died in 2011, is memorialized at Lomell Lane, off Garden State Parkway exit 83.
