Ocean County School Closings For Jan. 3

OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — With a strong winter storm heading for New Jersey on Monday and Ocean County under a winter storm warning and a state of emergency, some school districts are taking precautions, delaying their openings or closing completely.

The closings are traditional snow days. There are no provisions by the state for districts to shift to remote instruction for a weather emergency closing. Districts without emergency days built into their school calendars will be adjusting their calendars to make up the day, as they must have 180 days of school under state law.

These are the districts that have announced closures. Some that had announced delayed openings changed those to closures Monday morning:

• Brick Township Schools
• Central Regional School District
• Donovan Catholic
• Eagleswood Elementary School
• Island Heights Grade School
• Jackson Township Schools
• Lacey Township Schools
• Lakehurst Elementary School
• Lavallette Elementary School
• Little Egg Harbor Schools
• Manchester Township Schools
• Pinelands Regional Schools
• Point Pleasant Borough Schools
• Point Pleasant Beach Borough Schools
• St. Joseph Elementary School, Toms River
• Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School, Seaside Heights
• Toms River Regional School District
• Tuckerton Elementary School
• Waretown Elementary School

The Plumsted Township School District announced remote instruction for Monday due to staffing issues as a result of COVID-19 infections.
