Phone Scam Warning In Toms River: Police Say It's Not Them

If you get a call asking you to send money, hang up.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River police are warning residents about a phone scam circulating in the township where the caller is identifying themselves as a member of the department.

"We are aware of a phone scam circulating where the person on the line identifies themselves as Sgt. Scott Kenny from the Toms River Police Department. The caller requests an immediate call back if there is no answer, stating an urgent police matter," the police department said in a post on Facebook.

"There is no validity to this call," police said.

If you receive a call that you are unsure of, please call the police department at 732-349-0150 and ask if you were contacted by someone from the Toms River police.

"As a reminder, the Toms River Police Department will NEVER request payments, especially via gift card, for fines over the phone," police said.
