Running back Jaden Kosh scored a pair of touchdowns for the Indians.

Toms River South’s Jaden Kosh scored from 2 yards out and then put a devastating hit on Donovan Catholic running back David Calderon to stop the Griffins’ last drive as the Indians christened their new football grandstand with a 14-10 victory Friday night.

Kosh scored the Indians’ opening touchdown from 4 yards out after a 68-yard sprint by Dashaun Alexander gave Toms River South first-and-goal.

But after taking the 7-0 lead, the Indians’ offense sputtered.

Donovan Catholic, which opened its season with a wild victory over Pinelands, put the ball in the hands of Calderon repeatedly but struggled to get the ball in the end zone, settling for a 28-yard field goal from Gian Carlo Stigliano.

But early in the second half, Calderon found a seam to score a 21-yard touchdown after the Griffins recovered a Toms River South fumble, giving Donovan a 10-7 lead.

But it was on a pitch play late -- the same kind of pitch play that Donovan had been using effectively all game -- where Kosh hit Calderon hard, knocking the Griffins’ running back to the ground. Calderon walked off the field with support from trainers but with less than two minutes left in the game did not return.
