Police Seek Witnesses In Route 571 Crash That Injured 5

One person remains hospitalized following the crash where the car hit a tree.

JACKSON, NJ — Police are continuing to seek witnesses to a crash on Route 571 that injured five people, leaving one hospitalized.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. on Monday on Route 571 — Toms River Road in that area — in the area of the Regional Day School, Jackson Sgt. George Vidalis said.

A blue 2019 Nissan Sentra went off the road and hit a tree, Vidalis said. Police are trying to determine why the car went off the road.

The driver, Roberto Bonilla, 22, of Toms River, and three juveniles who were passengers in the back seat were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, Vidalis said. Police did not release the names of the juveniles.

In addition, Zamora Alvares, 21, of Bayville, was seriously injured and remains hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Vidalis said.

"While the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, it appears that only the driver and one rear seat passenger were wearing their seat belts," he said.

Jackson Fire Station 56, Jackson First Aid Squad and MONOC Paramedics responded.

The crash is under investigation by Jackson Police Officers Jeffrey Henba and Edward Travisano. Detective Brad Frank of the Ocean County Prosecutor's office also responded, Vidalis said.
