TOMS RIVER, NJ — If it's not oil, it's water. Motorists driving in downtown Toms River Tuesday afternoon continued to face challenges as the Toms River flooded its banks and into nearby streets.

Irons Street was flooded from the corner of Water Street to Herflicker Boulevard around high tide, witnesses told Patch.

In Huddy Park the water spilled over the banks and covered the sidewalk around the perimeter of the park.

The water was forcing motorists to ride the center of the road on Herflicker to avoid issues, which was jamming traffic.

Tidal flooding has been an issue since Friday's nor'easter, which brought strong winds that drove bayside flooding in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park. Video posted by John Bushell Jr. of Betty & Nick's Bait and Tackle showed significant bayside flooding on Sunday, and on Tuesday afternoon video posted by Shore and More General Store in Seaside Park showed the flooding continues to be an issue there with the tide cycles.

With the newest storm arriving later Tuesday, it's possible flooding could intensify. A coastal flood advisory is in effect through at least 3 p.m. Wednesday, with water surges expected to be as much as 2.5 feet above astronomical high tide. The National Weather Service's Mount Holly office said road flooding is a likely possibility, especially in areas that usually flood.
