TOMS RIVER, NJ — By the time the Toms River Patch newsletter hits your email inbox with this article, traffic should be flowing on two lanes in each direction on Route 166 north of Route 37.

New Prince Concrete, the contractor on the state Department of Transportation road project, had removed the heavy equipment and barriers that have designated the work zone for months on end by 11:30 p.m. Crews were busy painting directional arrows and lines on the road near the Old Freehold intersection, while another worker adjusted a traffic signal.

All that remains is final paving of the road, which is expected to be completed over the next several weeks. The NJDOT has said the project, which officially began with road closures and traffic barriers put into place on March 28, 2016, should be completely finished by Memorial Day.
