Boy, 14, Charged With Murder In South Jersey Shooting: Prosecutor

The 14-year-old shot and killed a 25-year-old man last month in Mount Holly's Mill Dam Park, authorities said.

MOUNT HOLLY, NJ — A 14-year-old faces murder charges following a fatal shooting last month in a South Jersey park, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

The teenage boy, whose name cannot be released due to his age, is accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old Andre Ross in Mount Holly's Mill Dam Park on Sept. 22, Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Mount Holly Township Police Chief Clifford C. Spencer said.

Ross, a Mount Holly resident, was shot in the back at about 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 22, officials said. He died at the scene.

An autopsy revealed his cause of death was a single gunshot wound, police said.

A motive for the shooting was not shared.

The teen was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at the Burlington County Courts Facility, authorities said. He will be lodged in Ocean County pending a hearing in Superior Court.

He was charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
