NJ Man Dead After Falling Into Massive Container Of Mineral Oil
The container was in the process of being filled when the Iselin resident fell in.
LINDEN, NJ — A 71-year-old man died on Monday after falling into a bulk liquid container of mineral oil in what officials are calling an industrial accident, according to authorities.
At around 2 p.m., police and fire officials responded to a private property near the area of Park Avenue and Brunswick Avenue after receiving a call about a deadly industrial accident.
The private subcontractor from Iselin was working on top of the container when he accidentally fell in, officials said. The victim was not immediately identified.
At the time of the fall, the 6,000-gallon container was being filled with mineral oil, a highly refined petroleum-derived liquid. By the time anyone was able to get to the man, he was already dead.
Officials noted that beyond the police investigation an independent Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) review is also underway.
