Services Saturday For Arthur "Art" Rooney, Point Pleasant Resident, Toms River Schools Fixture

Former assistant baseball coach at Toms River South, attendance officer at Toms River North, was 77

Arthur Rooney of Point Pleasant passed away with his family by his side, on Dec. 22, 2014. He was 77 years old, according to his obituary on the Colonial Home For Funerals website.

Arthur was born Dec. 3, 1937 to James and Cecelia Rooney and raised in Jersey City. He proudly served in the United States Army and then went on to focus on his career. During his career he was an attendance officer for Toms River High School North, retiring five years ago.

His greatest passion was his love for baseball. Arthur’s passion for baseball was evident: he was a major league baseball scout, a coach for the Jersey Shore Baseball League, in particular for the Point Pleasant Merchants, and he was an assistant coach for the Toms River South high school team.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and coach and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Arthur is preceded in death by his father, James Rooney. He is survived by his mother, Cecelia Rooney, his loving wife of 32 years, Kathleen Rooney; his two sons and their spouses, Art Rooney and Theresa of Florida; Kevin Rooney and Dawn of Point Pleasant; two daughters and their spouses, Victoria Carter and James of Point Pleasant and Monica Oliviero and James of Whiting; and one brother, James Rooney and his wife Donna of Point Pleasant. Arthur is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Michelle, Nick, Christopher, Tyler, Logan, Hayden, James and Luke, and one great-grandson, Landen.

The family will receive relatives and friends, Saturday, December 27th, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Route 88 Brick, NJ 08724. The funeral prayer service will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
