28K Lose Power In Severe NJ Weather; Thunderstorms, Flooding

See which NJ towns have power outages. The NWS issued alerts for the region. Here's where the storms have had the biggest impact.

The National Weather Service issued several alerts for bad weather in New Jersey on Thursday. Nearly 30,000 were without power, with many areas of North and Central Jersey still impacted by the Wednesday storms (see towns listed below).

Thunderstorms were producing heavy rain across South Jersey and the Jersey Shore. Up to 2 inches of rain fell in a short amount of time. Flash flooding was expected to begin shortly in the areas of heaviest rain.

A flash flood warning was issued for Ocean, Monmouth, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester counties and other areas of South Jersey and the Jersey Shore. The warning was set to expire at 6:45 p.m.

In Toms River, traffic lights on Route 37 were out. Use caution and expect delays.

Heavy flooding was reported on Barnegat roads. Use caution. Do not drive into standing water: Your car's electronics don't like water.

Ocean Township in Monmouth County also as having bad flooding.

  • Thursday afternoon: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 88. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
  • Thursday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a chance of showers. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 73. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
