Six Flags Great Adventure Announces Virtual Gaming 4D Coaster For 2017

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis should open late spring; discounted 2017 season passes are on sale through Labor Day, officials said.

JACKSON, NJ — It's been a busy year for the ride construction crews at Six Flags Great Adventure.

On Thursday morning, park officials announced that 2017 will bring yet another new addition to the park — another in its line of DC Comics-themed rides — with the opening of JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis.

The park added two thrill rides this year. In May, it opened The Joker, a 4-D ride that seats up to eight people per vehicle that allow riders to flip head over heels while flying along the twisting track.

Last month, the park announced that Skull Mountain is being turned into a virtual reality roller coaster experience called The Rage of the Gargoyles. That is expected to debut just in time for Fright Fest, park officials said.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle for Metropolis is a multi-sensory, interactive dark ride, according to park officials. It is another 4D ride experience, with wind, fire, mist and fog effects, plus life-like animatronic characters. The ride's six-passenger, motion-platform cars "twist, tilt and spin while going through hairpin, 360-degree turns, all synced to the action on the screens," the park said in a news release. There is a virtual loop and a barrel roll, and high definition, 3D animation that fully immerses riders into the city of Metropolis.

It also will include state-of-the-art, real-time gaming elements including 600 virtual and tangible targets, according to the news release.

The ride is expected to debut in the late spring of 2017, park officials said.

Parkgoers who want to get a head start on 2017 can purchase 2017 season passes through Labor Day with savings of up to 70 percent on the cost of passes, park officials said. Sept. 1 through Sept. 5, guests will receive a free upgrade to a Gold Season Pass with every 2017 season pass purchased. Gold Season Passes include admission to both Six Flags Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor, and any other Six Flags theme park, as well as free parking and special admission offers for friends. 2017 Season Passes provide unlimited visits any operating day for the rest of 2016, including park admission to Fright Fest and Holiday in the Park, and all of 2017.
