Speed Limits Near Toms River East To Be Reduced

TOMS RIVER, NJ — If you're high school student who's always cutting it close on getting to school on time, you may want to start making adjustments to your morning routine now, because Toms River is preparing to reduce the speed limits on Dunedin Street and Raider Way.

The Toms River Township Council introduced an ordinance Tuesday night to reduce the speed limit on both streets from 35 mph to 25 mph. The ordinance is scheduled for a second reading and final vote at the Tuesday, Sept. 11 council meeting.

Typically new ordinances take effect roughly 20 days from publication of the approved ordinances, meaning the speed limit change would take effect roughly Oct. 1.

The speed limit change affects the entire length of Dunedin Street, from the intersection with Bay Avenue (County Route 571) to Red Cedar Street.

The Raider Way speed limit reduction also is the entire length, from Dunedin Street to Coolidge Avenue.

Coolidge Avenue and Red Cedar Street are unaffected by the introduced ordinance.
