The Mariners advance to face Cherokee in the second round

It had been a couple of rough weeks for Toms River North.

Friday night, all of that was in the rearview mirror, however, as the eighth-seeded Mariners upended previously unbeaten Lenape, 19-10, in the opening round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group V football playoffs, according to the Shore Sports Network.

Toms River North (6-4) got two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Mike Husni, who also threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Asante Moorer in the victory.

The Mariners advance to face fourth-seeded Cherokee, which dispatched Brick Memorial, 45-28, on Friday night.
