State Police, Towing Company Removing Truck That Plunged Into Toms River A Week Ago

Dog drowned in truck after owner took truck out on frozen river to do "donuts."

The New Jersey State Marine Police and a private towing company are in the process of lifting the truck that Andrew Mayer took out for a late night joyride on the frozen Toms River a week ago.

Mayer’s two-year-old dog Rolo died in the truck. The incident prompted a barrage of angry responses from animal lovers. Mayer, 27, was in Toms River Municipal Court today to answer charges of criminal mischief, reckless driving and pollution in the March 1 incident, which sparked a several-hours search-and-rescue effort that included a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and divers from the New Jersey State Police Marine Unit.

The Ocean County Sheriff 911 Facebook page posted pictures of the recovery operation in the area of Windy Cove in Pine Beach.
