State Sets Hearings On Next Round Of Sandy Funding Distribution

The public can comment on the state's "Action Plan" on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Ocean County College in Toms River

Toms River residents who are trying to rebuild their homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy will have an opporunity to comment on the state’s plans for the distribution of federal recovery funds.

One public hearing is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. at Ocean County College.

The hearings will focus on the state’s Action Plan amendment for the third distribution of $501 million in federal funding for Superstorm Sandy recovery and rebuilding, according to a news release.

The state also will accept public comment on funding proposals selected through HUD’s Rebuild by Design initiative, and the proposed reallocation of previously allocated funds to the RREM program.

If you’d like to comment, you can do so by mail, email or in person at one of the two public hearings listed below. Those wishing to express comments or concerns in person at the public hearings must pre-register at www.renewjerseystronger.org.

Tuesday’s hearing at OCC will be in the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Performing Arts, 1 College Drive, Building 12, Toms River, NJ 08753.

There also will be a hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 7 from 4-7 p.m. at Bergen Community College’s Moses Center, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652.

Comments may also be submitted in writing by email to sandy.publiccomment@dca.nj.gov, or by mail to the attention of Jamie Saults, NJ Department of Community Affairs, 101 South Broad Street, P.O. Box 823, Trenton, NJ 08625. All comments must be received by the close of the public comment period to be considered.
