Storm Brings Down Trees, Knocks Out Power In Toms River, Brick

The fast-moving storm also knocked out power at Six Flags Great Adventure.

A fast-moving storm that swept through Ocean County shortly after noon Wednesday has knocked out power to a few thousands residents as the storm brought down trees with strong winds and lightning.

The First Energy outage map for the Jersey Central Power & Light coverage area showed pockets of power outages in Toms River and Brick, with the largest being about 1,500 customers along Princeton Avenue. JCP&L was estimating roughly 3,000 customers in Ocean County without power as of 2 p.m.

The storm also knocked out power at Six Flags Great Adventure, leaving patrons taking cover in buildings while the storm passed.

While heavy rain fell in Ocean County, it was nothing compared with the large hail that fell in the Philadelphia area as the storm moved through. The storm left more than 66,000 PECO customers without power.

Trees were down throughout Jackson, according to reports. A tree was down on West Farms Road in Howell, and one was reportedly down near Route 37 in Toms River, according to scanner reports.
