Suez Paving Toms River Roads Where It Put In New Water Mains

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Suez water company crews will be paving roads in the downtown area starting Friday night where the company recently replaced water mains, officials said.

The work will be done at night and is anticipated to be completed by April 22, officials said. There is no weekend paving.

"While there will be slight inconveniences due to road closures and detours, our crews will be working quickly and carefully, which will result in safer roadways and paved surfaces following water main construction," said Jim Mastrokalos, Suez director of operations. "Access will be maintained to all residential and commercial buildings during the work, and emergency vehicles will have access to local properties throughout the project."

Paving will be done from about 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and there will be police and traffic control in place. Motorists should anticipate detours and use caution if they are driving through an area where paving is underway.

The roads will be milled, which removes about 2 inches of the old asphalt and evens out the surface, then the new asphalt will be put in place.

The schedule, subject to change if the weather is bad, is as follows:

Friday: Washington Street, beginning at Lexington Avenue to Main Street (westbound) and Hyers Street from Legion Court to Washington Street
Monday: Brooks Road, Dock Street, Maiden Lane and Washington Street, beginning at Lexington Avenue to Main Street (eastbound)
Tuesday: Hooper Avenue, beginning at Grand Avenue to E Water Street
Wednesday: Robbins Street from Washington Street to E Water Street and : Allen Street from Washington Street to E Water Street
Thursday: Washington Street asphalt patch (eastbound)
April 22: Washington Street asphalt patch (westbound)

Final paving schedules for other recent water main replacement areas, including Batchelor Street, Dickenson Avenue, Lafayette Avenue, Lowell Avenue, Marian Street, Russo Place and East and West Woodland avenues, will be announced in the weeks ahead, Suez officials said.
