Take A Peek Into Toms River's Past At Historical Society Event
Learn about key events over the last 250 years from Toms River's origins to today from Mark Mutter, the township's official historian.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — History buffs and those just curious about Toms River's past as the township celebrates its 250th anniversary will get a chance to peek into the past next week.
On Wednesday, May 24, Mark Mutter, Toms River's official Township Historian and the township clerk, will give a presentation tracing Toms River's history at the Ocean County Historical Society, 26 Hadley Avenue, Toms River. The presentation begins at 7 p.m.
Mutter will trace Toms River’s diverse history from the ‘Original People,’ the Lenni Lenape, through the Age of Exploration to the incorporation of the Township of Dover to the current Toms River name change in 2006.

Before and after Mutter’s presentation, view the historical society's newest exhibition in the Pauline Miller Room. You’ll find amazing photos, news articles, and artifacts that help you to understand and appreciate the culture of Toms River in the last 250 years.
"Mr. Mutter has dedicated his vast knowledge and talents for many years to serving the residents of Toms River, as a former member of the Dover Township Committee, as deputy mayor and then mayor, and now as township clerk. His enthusiasm for researching, collecting artifacts and educating about all aspects of Toms River is infectious!" the historical society said.
