A "Hazardous Weather Outlook" has been issued for New Jersey as strong, severe thunderstorms are expected to hit the area Tuesday night.

It looks like the storms will be more severe at the Jersey Shore and in South Jersey, where "large hail" and 35-mph wind gusts are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents are also being warned about possible flooding and lightning.

In the central and northern areas of New Jersey, scattered thunderstorms are possible, as well as strong wind gusts.
Here is the forecast for the Jersey Shore and South Jersey:
Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a 10th and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 8 p.m. and midnight. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. West wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8 p.m. and midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
