TOMS RIVER, NJ — Before the kids go out trick or treating on Halloween, it is a good time to take inventory of who is living in your neighborhood.

According to the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry, there are 76 registered sex offenders in the Toms River area. Of those, 73 are Tier II offenders, considered to be at moderate risk of committing another sexual offense, according to New Jersey's Megan's Law. Three of them are Tier III offenders, considered to be at high risk of committing another sexual offense.

Two offenders were listed as homeless. One was convicted of sexual assault in 1996 at age 14; the other was convicted of sexual assault in 2001 at age 15.

The registry, maintained by the New Jersey State Police, goes by U.S. Postal Service mailing address, so some of the offenders are listed as living in Toms River but actually live in Manchester or Berkeley townships.
