TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River cemetery is participating in a national program that places wreaths on the graves of veterans across the country for Christmas.

Wreaths Across America, which got its start in 1992 but gained national attention in 2005, places wreaths on the graves of the nation's military dead buried at Arlington National Cemetery and graves of veterans buried at more than 1,600 cemeteries around the country, in an ongoing effort to honor their service.

St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Toms River has joined the effort for 2019.

The wreaths are sponsored by people who want to help remember and honor those who fought for the United States.

Volunteers then help place the wreaths on graves during a national wreath-laying event.
