Toms River Doughnut Shop Gets 'Jersey's Best' Billing Again

The Daily Meal says they are the best doughnuts in New Jersey. What do you think?

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The doughnut shop with the toppings to tempt your tastebuds is back at the top again.

Uncle Dood's Donuts again has been named as having the best doughnuts in New Jersey by the Daily Meal. The Robbins Street shop was first called the best by the Daily Meal in October 2016.

Dominic Livolsi, the owner, said he's thrilled to selected again.

"I'm very happy and humbled to be on the list again," Livolsi said Friday. "It's really cool."

The Daily Meal said Uncle Dood'sgot the nod because its doughnuts "are fun, fancy, and delicious." From the Vermont Swine (maple icing and bacon bits) and Bed Rockin’ (vanilla frosting and Fruity Pebbles) to ever-changing monthly offerings, the doughnuts get high marks for their deliciousness, the website said.

Livolsi, whose shop marks its fifth anniversary in late January, said being named to lists such as this is a bonus, like the sprinkles on his Short Stuff strawberry shortcake doughnut.

"Sometimes I still wake up in the morning thinking 'I still get to do this?' " he said. "I'm very happy. The rent is paid, the insurance is paid and I have a couple dollars left over. It's pretty cool that while everyone else has to go to work, we get to make doughnuts."

The shop is on Robbins Street near the corner with Water Street. Stop by and judge for yourself.
