Toms River East Cheerleaders Win National Competition

The competition in Atlantic City included teams from several states.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The Toms River East competition cheerleading team took home national honors recently at the Battle at the Boardwalk competition, the Toms River Regional School District announced.

The national cheer and dance competition event, held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City Feb. 4, included teams from several states in a variety of age groups.

The Toms River East team took first place in the intermediate varsity category with a score of 90.00, and also captured the grand champion title in the school intermediate category, earned by attaining the highest score out of all of the teams (including junior high and elementary) competing in the school intermediate category. They outpointed second-place Fair Lawn High School by 1.25 points.

The East cheerleaders' score was also higher than all but one team that competed in the School Advanced Category. The grand champion in that category, Gwynn Park High School of Maryland, scored a 90.47.
