Toms River Fire Co. 1 Marking 20th Anniversary Of 9/11 Attacks

Toms River Fire Company No. 1 will honor the memories of all who perished in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks 20 years ago.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Toms River Fire Company No. 1 again will host the ceremony honoring those who perished 20 years ago in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony will be held on Sept. 11 at the corner of Robbins Street and Washington Street at the Firefighters Memorial statue.

The ceremony is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. Residents, regional first responders and military personnel are invited to attend the ceremony, the fire company said.

There were 2,996 people killed in the 9/11 attacks, including 19 people from Ocean County.

At the World Trade Center, 2,763 died, including 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers, according to History.com. At the Pentagon, 189 people were killed, including 64 on American Airlines Flight 77, the airliner that struck the building. On United Flight 93, 44 people died when the plane crashed in Pennsylvania before it could reach its intended target.
