The resident discovered the smoke, ran from the house and called for help, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River home was damaged but no one was injured when the house caught fire Monday, Toms River police said.

Authorities were called to the home at 51 Oak Glen Road shortly before noon Monday after a resident of the home saw smoke in the upstairs portion of the home, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.

The resident ran from the house and she was not injured, Stocco said.

When firefighters and police arrived, smoke was billowing out of the garage and roof line of the home. Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2, East Dover, Silverton, and Pleasant Plains arrived and quickly brought the fire under control before any flames could spread to the main living area, Stocco said. The fire was contained mostly to the garage, he said.

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention and the police department's Criminal Investigation Bureau are investigating the fire, which appears to have started in the garage, Stocco said.
