Toms River House Left Unsafe After Suspended Driver Crashes Into It, Police Say

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Jackson man has been charged with driving with a suspended license after he crashed his car into a home on Cox Cro Road, leaving the home uninhabitable, Toms River police said.

Jose Lopez-Serrano, 23, was hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was flown following the crash Friday night, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The crash happened about 11:25 p.m. near the intersection of Old Freehold Road, she said.

The crash investigation showed Lopez-Serrano drove through several yards and fenced and eventually hit a house, Messina said. He had to be extricated from the car by the Pleasant Plains Fire Company.

The home was inspected by the Toms River Building Department and deemed structurally unsafe, she said.

Lopez-Serrano was cited for failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, and failure to exhibit an insurance card, Messina said. Additional charges are pending.

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren.
