Toms River Man Shot At Winteringham Village, Police Say
The shooting happened apparently during an attempted robbery, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ -- A Toms River man is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his shoulder after an attempted robbery in Winteringham Village on Tuesday, police said.
Toms River police were called to the parking lot at the apartment complex on Route 166 shortly after 3 p.m. after several callers reported hearing a gunshot, said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department.
A search of the area turned up several people who said they heard a shot but no suspects or evidence, Stocco said. A short time later, however, a 19-year-old man arrived at Community Medical Center with a single gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The man told investigating officers that he was in the parking lot at Winteringham Village and was approached by a man brandishing a handgun, Stocco said. The victim said the man walked up to him as he stood next to his car and fired one shot, in an apparent robbery attempt, he said.
The man then fled on foot, he said.
