Toms River North Senior Dies After Motorcycle Crash

Police said the crash on Schenks Mill Road happened when he lost control of the motorcycle.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River 18-year-old died Wednesday night after a motorcycle accident on Schenks Mill Road, Toms River police said Thursday.

Christian Atehortua, 18, succumbed to his injuries after he was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center following the crash, which happened shortly after 8 p.m. near Darren Street, police said. Atehortua was a senior at Toms River High School North, sources told Patch.

The preliminary investigation found Atehortua lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown from it; there were no other vehicles involved, police said.

Police and EMS personnel administered first aid at the scene and Atehortua was airlifted from Castle Park but did not survive despite efforts to save his life, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen.
