Toms River Student Wins STEM Grant From NY Institute Of Technology
The university's mini-STEM grant program helps students pay for the costs of their research materials.
TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River High School North student has won a mini-STEM grant from the New York Institute of Technology.
The program awards $300 grants to pay for the research materials and related expenses for high school research projects or continuing projects in STEM disciplines, the college says.
Leah Seidman, a student at Toms River North, received a $300 award for her proposal, studying the "effect of different bean species on the Microbiome of bean beetle Callosobruchus Maculatus."

The program "especially congratulates the women awardees of the New York Institute of Technology’s Mini-Research Grant Award Program," the grant committee said in a message to Seidman. "Women and girls in STEM fields, especially women and girls of color, can face enormous obstacles to success. We are inspired by these awardees and are eager to see them excel in their careers."
