Toms River Trailer Dealership Closing After Almost 100 Years

An online business liquidation auction is set to take place in mid-July for the dealership, which started operations in 1928.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — After nearly 100 years of service to the local community, a beloved trailer dealership is closing and will sell its inventory at an upcoming auction.

Hecht Trailers, which began operations in Toms River in 1928, has offered a variety of tractor brands and models to customers over the years.

In an interview with the Asbury Park Press, Manager Al Brehme said that the current owner, Michael Hecht, was ready to retire, and that with the business recently struggling, he decided to sell the property.

"They were very good people," Brehme said of the Hecht family when speaking with the Asbury Park Press. "Very fair, very generous."

According to the auction details, two preview dates will take place on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15, with pickup dates scheduled between Thursday, July 16, and Tuesday, July 21.

Items included in the auction range from:

  • Hundreds of trailers and dealership assets
  • Late-model enclosed, utility, equipment, tilt, and gooseneck trailers
  • Aluminum, steel deck, and specialty hauling trailers
  • Air-Tow drop-deck trailers
  • H&H, Pace, Haulmark, Bravo, Big Tex, Belmont, Load Rite, Wells Cargo and other leading brands
  • Forklifts, material handling, and shop equipment
  • Pickup trucks, utility vehicles, and dealership support assets

The timed online auction is scheduled to end at 11 a.m. on July 15 and is being conducted by A.J. Willner Auctions.
