TOMS RIVER, NJ — Police have released the identity of a Toms River woman who died Saturday afternoon following a head-on crash on New Hampshire Avenue, police said.

Jean Divona, 82, who lived in the Greenbriar Woodlands community, was pronounced dead at Monmouth Medical Center South Campus in Lakewood at 4:11 p.m., said Jillian Messina, public information officer for the Toms River Police Department, in an updated news release.

Divona was driving north on New Hampshire Avenue in a 2005 Toyota Camry about 3 p.m. when her car was hit by a white 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Danny Reed, 33, of Toms River, Messina said.

Reed was southbound on New Hampshire Avenue and crossed the center line near North Maple Avenue, hitting Divona's car head-on in the process, Messina said.

Divona had to be extricated from her vehicle by firefighters from the Pleasant Plains and Silverton fire companies, she said. CPR was administered in the ambulance en route to the hospital but Divona did not survive, she said.
