Toms River Wrestlers Medal At State Championships
Toms River East's Andrew Meyers is state runner-up; Toms River South's McClave (fifth) and Corrigan (seventh) also bring home hardware.
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- A trio of wrestlers from Toms River are returning from their trips to the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships with hardware, after all three medaled on Sunday.
Toms River East's Andrew Meyers reached the state final at 152 pounds, where he lost to Stephen Glasgow of Bound Brook. Glasgow came into the final with just one loss this season and a runner-up in the 2015 tournament.
Meyers, a junior who was making his second trip to Atlantic City, was simply outmuscled by Glasgow, who took Meyers down repeatedly en route to a 16-6 major decision. Meyers' best opportunity to score on Glasgow came as he trailed 12-5, when he managed to throw Glasgow late in the second period, but he was unable to control Glasgow long enough to score the points or record a pin.

McClave, a Toms River South senior, finished fifth at 132 after getting knocked out during the semifinals at 132 on Saturday. He had scored one-point decisions in his opening bouts before losing to eventual state runner-up Brandon Paetzell of Phillipsburg. McClave defeated Alec Kelly of St. Peter's Prep 7-4 in the fifth-place bout.
McClave's teammate, Cole Corrigan, finished seventh at 138 pounds. The Indians' sophomore opened his trip to Atlantic City by pinning in the prequarterfinals Friday night, but lost in the quarterfinals Saturday morning. Corrigan bounced back with a major decision in the second round of wrestlebacks, a decision, and then advanced to the medal round when Howell's Kris Lindemann suffered an injury. Corrigan won seventh by pinning Benjamin Brisman of Pascack Hills in 2:15.
