Toms River's Insectropolis Named One Of 10 Great Insect Zoos In U.S.
The list includes just one other zoo in the Northeast.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Insectropolis, Toms River's "bugseum," has been named to a list of 10 great insect zoos around the country, according to a report.
The report in USA Today, inspired by an announcement from New York’s American Museum of Natural History about plans for a $340 million insectarium, took a look at insect museums around the country.
“There’s a mystery to insects and an innate fascination for children,” Gene White, an entomologist with pest control company Rentokil Steritech, told USA Today.

The museums were not ranked in any order, but Insectropolis was just one of two in the northeast that made the report.
Insectropolis has a wide range of exhibits thvat allow visitors "to discover the little-known lives of insects and foster a greater appreciation for bugs and their place in our world."

There's WBUG Radio, which explores how insects communicate; the Battle Zone, which looks at what insects do to protect themselves from being eaten.
There's even a Mud Tube for kids to crawl through and see life from the eyes of an insect.
Insectropolis is located at 1761 Route 9, Toms River, and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
