Route 9 DWI Crash Causes Road Closure, Leads To Heroin Arrest

No one was injured in the crash, police said, but Route 9 remained closed for 20 hours, police said.

A crash Tuesday evening on Route 9 led to the arrests of two Toms River men -- one on a charge of drunken driving, the other on a drug charge -- and left the road closed well into Wednesday afternoon, police said.

There were no injuries, Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said.

Route 9 was closed at Sunset Avenue while a utility pole was replaced by Jersey Central Power & Light, Stocco said, with detours in place at Sunset and at West Whitty Road. Route 9 finally reopened early Wednesday evening, Stocco said Thursday.

The pole was extensively damaged when a 2007 Infiniti G35 driven by Nicholas Corsair, 19, of Raymond Avenue, left the road and hit the pole shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Stocco said. Corsair was charged with driving while intoxicated, he said.

Corsair’s passenger, Robert Latronico, 23, also of Raymond Avenue, was found to have five outstanding warrants in the amount of $1,500 from Brick and Toms River and was arrested, Stocco said. He was also found to be in possession of heroin. His bail was set at $5,000, Stocco said.
