Traffic Issues Downtown and on Bey Lea Road
Two construction projects altering traffic patterns
The long-term construction associated with parking deck repairs and a new parkway interchange are altering traffic downtown and on Bey Lea Road today.
At the municipal parking garage, cranework has closed the entrance from Robbins Street, and traffic is again two-way at Robbins Parkway.
Previously the roadway became a one-way traffic pattern from East Water Street up Robbins Parkway to Robbins Street.

According to the Toms River Engineer's Office, the crane's presence at the top of the parking garage will facilitate the installation of new steel beams, and intermittent traffic changes from two-way to one-way traffic will be ongoing until the work is complete.
The project is both to repair the aging parking garage, part of a project that began in December and will continue through early summer, according to the township engineer's office. The parking deck will also be capped with a new roof featuring solar panels.

Traffic from Robbins Street onto the parking garage is prohibited as a safety fence encloses the roadway around the crane. The pedestrian sidewalk remains open.
On the Bey Lea Road portion of Route 571 near Intermediate Way, ongoing construction for the new parkway interchange is closing the right northbound lanes and the southbound shoulder.
Construction crews and equipment on both sides of the highway are excavating for Exit 83, which will eventually connect the Garden State Parkway north and south entrances with Route 571 near Intermediate Way.
Drivers should merge into one lane heading northbound and proceed with caution through the construction area.
