Traffic Update At Jersey Shore: Parkway Jammed In Toms River
A 4-mile backup southbound was slowing the commute Friday. Rain is predicted all day Saturday and possibly Sunday.
JERSEY SHORE, NJ — With rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for much of the weekend, the traffic outlook for one of the last officials weekends of summer may be lighter than usual.
The weekend was getting off to a slow start on Friday, however, with a four-mile slowdown on the Garden State Parkway in the area of the Toms River toll plaza due to volume, according to the state Department of Transportation website 511nj.org.
There were heavy delays in the northbound lanes of the Parkway in the same area, with a 3-mile backup, 511nj.org reported.

The trip from the Raritan River bridge south to exit 63 for Long Beach Island was taking more than 90 minutes as a result, as of 4 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Toms River, thunderstorms Friday afternoon are anticipated to continue overnight and through the day Saturday. There is a flash flood watch in effect until early Sunday, and scattered storms are possible Sunday.

Traffic headed east on the Atlantic City Expressway was lighter than usual for a Friday, and light on Interstate 195 eastbound as well.
